Basic regulations from Alberta Transportation:

  • A Driving Instructor shall be licensed in accordance with the Driver Training Regulation (316/2002) and Government of Alberta Guidelines.
  • A person shall not give Driver Training for a fee or consideration unless that person holds a valid Driving Instructor’s licence and is employed by a licensed Driver Training School.
  • Instructor Training is provided through licenced Driver Training Schools. 

 

Class 1 MELT, air brake instructor

You are welcome to join our truck professional team if you:

  • have class 1 MELT instructor licence or willing to sign a contract with us and get training to become an instructor
  • have held class 1 licence with Air Brake Endorsement (Q) for years
  • be patient and passionate for teaching new drivers
  • have excellent communication skills
  • have a clean 5 or 10 year commercial driver abstract
  • have clean Crininal Record Check, including a Vulnerable Sector Check
  • live in or close to Calgary

 

Class 5 In-vehicle driving instructor

You are welcome to join our class 5 instructor team if you:

  • have class 5 in-vehicle or in-class instructor licence or willing to sign a contract with us and get training to become an instructor
  • be patient and passionate for teaching new drivers
  • have excellent communication skills
  • have a clean 5 year driver abstract
  • have clean Crininal Record Check, including a Vulnerable Sector Check
  • live in Calgary

 

To become an driving instructor, you will need to:

  • have held class 5, 4, 3, 2, 1licence at least three years
  • have class 1, 2, or 4 Alberta driver's licence 
  • have a current, original Crininal Record Check, including a Vulnerable Sector Check (or search) from an approved police agency dated within 90 days of application
  • pay for the non-refundable Driving Instructor licensing application fee at Registry Agent
  • have acceptable driving record (no more than 6 demerit points, and no driver's licence suspension or cancellation within the preceding two year preiod)
  • get proper knowledge and practical training from a licenced driving school
  • pass the knowledge test at Alberta Transportation office (two attempts a year)
  • pass the practical test conducted by a Driver Program Administrator (two attempts a year)
