1. Class 1 (MELT, 121.5 hrs)
a. Procedure to get your class 1 driver licence
- make sure you have your driver medical is ready and within 90 days before your road test
- complete air brake course and pass the knowledge test, or you have 'Q' endorsement already;
- complete in-class, in-yard, and on-road training hours
- driving school issues the course completion certificate and notify Alberta Transportation
- go to any registry agent office to do the class 1 knowledge test
- driving school books the road test
- go for the road test with the following documentation
- driver licence
- driver medical
- proof of completion of knowledge test for air brake and classs 1
- Course Completion Certificate from the driving school
- upgrade your driver licence at a registry agent office

c. Canada-Alberta Job Grant program
Some key points:
- Employer applies on behalf of theire present or future employees for the program
- two-thirds of the training cost is covered
- 100% of the training cost is covered if you are unemployed
- training cannot start until the trainees has signed the application and the application is received be the CAJG

Procedure to get your 'Q' endorsement
- take the 6.5 hours in-class training
- take the practical training and pass the test with the instructor
- get the certificate from the driving school
- take the knowledge test at any registry office
- get your 'Q' endorsement once you pass the knowledge test
